The Eastland Community Trust has contributed $300,000 to the Tairawhiti Museum extension project which will see the development of three new galleries, increase storage space and allow Gisborne's visitors and residents greater assess to the museum's collections.
The Trust recognises the importance of the museum's collections and exhibition programmes to the community.
"The contribution of $300,000 by the Eastland Community Trust was one of the key building blocks of our extension project. The museum needed to reach $1.2 million funding to qualify for the Ministry of Culture and Heritage to fund one third of the project costs. ECT's contribution was one of the larger funding donations without which the project would not have been able to proceed" Laura Vodanovich - TAIRAWHITI MUSEUM DIRECTOR
