Representatives from several funding agencies will gather in the region later this month, with a view to upskilling those seeking funding for community projects.

ECT will once again host the organisations with workshops scheduled for Gisborne, Ruatoria and Wairoa, with the line-up varying at each.

“As a team of funders, we enjoy bringing these workshops to the region.

Every time we do, we meet passionate people and learn about a range of interesting initiatives that have the potential to have a meaningful impact on our communities,” says ECT general manager Leighton Evans.

“I can’t speak for all our funders but in our experience, the not-for-profit sector is incredibly busy, and there seems to be an ever-increasing range of worthy projects to fund.”

But, he warns that the funding environment is changing, and that can challenge organisations that don’t keep up.

“Funders are now looking harder at things like outcomes and collaboration. In simple terms – what impact are you hoping to have and what other organisations are you going to work with to deliver that outcome in an innovative or smart way. In some respects, we are asking groups to dream a little bigger, which can be counterintuitive.”

Mr Evans says it’s a new way of thinking, and one most funders will give advice on at the funding clinics.

Presenters at the clinics will include ECT, the Department of Conservation, Eastern and Central Community Trust, New Zealand Community Trust, Te Puni Kokiri, The Tindall Foundation, Department of Internal Affairs, The Sunrise Foundation, Gisborne District Council, Sport Gisborne Tairawhiti and Te Runanganui o Ngati Porou. In Wairoa, the Hawke’s Bay Foundation, Sport Hawke’s Bay, Ngati Kahungunu Wairoa Taiwhenua Inc, First Light Foundation, Wairoa District Council and Wairoa Waikaremoana Maori Trust Board will also take to the podium.

Representatives from several local organisations that have successfully launched projects will also share their fundraising experiences. They will share their fundraising journey, best practice planning and governance, and the development of fundraising strategies that have worked for their organisations.
